13 Apr 2008Another successful season ends

Posted by markparter

In what has been the best league season yet, Chapel proved to be the strongest team over the 14 game league season, by finishing with a 12 point lead over 2nd place Balwearie Thunder.

In 3rd spot were Aberdeen Oilers who in their first ever season played superb floorball and finish the season very strongly and only just missed out on 2nd spot.

In what was a close finish for the top 3 spots and automatic qualification to the Nationals, Forth Phoenix only just missed out on 3rd spot.  Missing a few players on the last days play they only drew with RBS Linlithgow and lost to Dundee Northern Lights.   Dundee Northern Lights secured 5th spot and Hawick secured 6th spot in what was a mixed season for them.  Hawick won the Christmas Cup but could not produce the results in the league to gain a high placed finish.

RBS Linlithgow managed to gain a point on the last day’s play that meant with Balwearie Lightning losing to the top two clubs that they would again avoid the bottom spot.  Balwearie Lightning had their best season to date but missed out by 1 point on avoiding bottom spot.  The positives for them though are they were 1 point off RBS compared to 11 points last season, and the goal difference was far better with far more goals scored and less conceded.

The Spring Cup will see the re-introduction of Glenrothes – Hawick dropped out – and it will be interesting to see if they can put up a good performance on their return to floorball.   They will though be facing form team Aberdeen Oilers in the quarter final.   Chapel – league winners play bottom club Balwearie Lightning.  Club colleagues Balwearie Thunder play second bottom RBS Linlithgow and in the remaining game Dundee Northern Lights take on Forth Phoenix.  Games will be played on Sunday 27th April at Fife Institute.

Aberdeen 1 won the short mini league, St.Andrews were second, Aberdeen 2 were third with the young Balwearie team competing well in each game, however despite all their hard work they finished fourth. Balwearie had the youngest players on show (13) and the oldest player at 52! A St.Andrews/Balwearie team lost to Aberdeen in the final 3-0.

16 Mar 2008Floorball on show at Kirkland Cultural Awareness Event

Posted by markparter

Balwearie floorballers and Jackie Savage attended Kirkland High School and Community College on Saturday 15th March 2008 as part of a cultural awareness event.

Members of the community had the chance to try floorball as one of a range of activities on show on the day.

Lots of Primary aged kids enjoyed having fun playing floorball and many parents were also encouraged to take part. It was great to see mum’s and kids and dad’s and kids passing the ball to each other.   A few parents enquired about how their kids can play the sport.

The challenge now is for us all to help develop the sport in Fife starting from youth level so that there are Fife based floorballers for years to come.

25 Feb 2008Chapel secure league title

Posted by markparter

Chapel won both games in T5 in Dundee to win the league.

Nearest challengers Balwearie Thunder and Forth Phoenix both won a game and lost one in T5 in Glenrothes.  This meant that neither could secure top sport.

The race now is on for 2nd and 3rd – top three qualify for the nationals – with Balwearie Thunder ahead by 1 point over Forth Phoenix.   In T6 Aberdeen Oilers will be pushing for the three wins that may see them finish in the top three.   So it is a three-way battle (Dundee can still if results go their way secure a top three spot, however they have decided against going to the nationals) for the remaining two spots.

Hawick will be looking to finish their season with two wins over the two Balwearie teams – Thunder and Lightning. Whilst RBS will be doing their best to try and edge above Balwearie Lightning at the other end of the league table.
